Tobago, which is the rural half of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is home to some of the beautiful dive destinations in the Caribbean. In the Crown Point region of Tobago, three dive sites are found, namely Mt. Irvine Wall, Flying Reef and Culloden Bay. In Mt Irvine Wall, massive schools of silversides being chased by tarpon are seen as light currents that provide a gentle nudge to the water. This is a 60-foot deep diving site that is recommended for beginners and intermediate divers.

Road to nowhere?

Article Abstract:

A $125-million two-lane highway called the Compact Road will be built on the island of Babeldaob in Palau. The 53-mile road that will encircle the island is part of an aid package by the US government. Its completion in the year 2000 is expected to result in unprecedented economic growth and development. One of the conditions set by the US government prior to its construction is for the Palau legislature to set aside large tracts of land that will serve as permanent nature preserves.

Tobago boasts of several excellent diving spots. Located in the Caribbean between the islands of Trinidad and Grenada, Tobago also has several luxury resorts and beachside cottages and is ideal for drift diving. Among the popular diving spots around the island are Spiny Colony, Flying Reef, Diver's Dream, Angel Reef, Cathedral, Picker, Bookends, Mt. Irvine Wall, Scarlet Ibis, Culloden Bay and London Bridge.
