Restless

Article Abstract:

Actor Sean Penn may be at the peak of his film career, but he continues to announce that he wants to retire. Only 38 years old, he is discouraged by the Hollywood system that sustains blockbuster films and provides little opportunity for creative, artistic work. Despite his insistence on withdrawing from acting, he is appearing in `The Thin Red Line,' `Hurlyburly,' and a new Woody Allen film. Other than `Dead Man Walking,' he has not appeared in big hits, and he shudders at the thought of making 8-figure salaries for doing nothing more than walking through a part instead of developing its character.
