What's missing from your healthy diet?

Complex carbohydrates are touted as healthy, but the complex carbohydrates must come from whole grain, not refined grains, in order to have health benefits. Refined complex carbohydrates are essentially the same as sugar. Eating whole grain foods can help reduce the risk of diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

The high-calcium diet recommended limits intake of meat and sodium, which tends to deplete calcium. Three to four servings each day of foods particularly high in calcium, such as nonfat milk, are recommended. A multivitamin with vitamin D is recommended to assure calcium absorption.

Strawberries have the highest total oxidant power among popular fruits, giving them more ability to protect against the cancer and clogged arteries associated with free radicals. Concord grape juice has the highest total antioxidant potency of five fruit juices.
