A former track and field athlete's reminiscence about cinder running tracks is presented. Cinder surfaces were commonly used for running-tracks before the advent of synthetic tracks. The gritty and noisy qualities of cinder tracks are a symbol of another era in track and field competitions.

The New York City Marathon is just one of many road races in the US where Dave Deigan can be found distributing his brand of heat blankets to thousands of runners as they cross the finish line. The blankets are known as Heatsheets and they are made of polypropylene with an aluminum coating.
