Article Abstract:

The brain is rich with untapped resources for enhancing the competitive edge of any athlete. Adopting the proper mental attitude will help athletes practice and perform more consistently and closer to their potential and ultimately, improve their game. Seven suggested exercises to help develop sound mental attitudes include determining the resources or strengths required to handle a situation successfully, selecting a past experience where one felt an emotion that enabled them to perform their best.

Mental training: your gold mettle

Article Abstract:

Olympic-caliber swimmers face problems similar to those ordinary swimmers encounter. The success of top athletes is premised on several conditions which can also be applied to the average performer. Having family and friends for support will help one reach a higher level of performance. Setting specific goals and visualizing them, enduring pain during training, remaining positive and perfecting technique with proper coaching will also improve one's self-esteem and performance.

In the speed zone

Article Abstract:

Fast swimming is motivated by how the brain is conditioned. Proper strokes do not guarantee that the swimming potential could be reached. When swimming under pressure, it is more important to focus the mind on things that stimulate the body than on things that could be distracting or cause tension. When desiring to be a fast swimmer, one should know the swimming speed, where it could be felt, and what part of the arms the stretch is felt.
