Microstats: paradigm shifting without a clutch

Article Abstract:

The communications-satellite industry has less-costly, quicker and smaller spacecraft designs as an emerging trend, with modest-sized satellites being developed for low-Earth-orbit applications. Revolutionary technologies are being studied by researchers in an effort to develop new satellites for both communications and scientific-mission requirements. Some scientists are advocating a re-evaluation of conventional satellite designs due to problems encountered with complex, expensive and large scientific spacecraft and satellites, such as microprocessor burning from radiation and failed deployments for large solar panels and antennas.

Bring IP video to the desktop

Article Abstract:

Internet Protocol-based video, or desktop video, technology is projected to emerge as an application with a wide market recognition similar to that of compressed-video technology. Desktop video, however, faces the need to deal to with user objections prior to taking its place as an integrated application for users of desktop computers. Objections such as desktop video taking in excessive bandwidth and not looking good comprise technical difficulties that are largely given solutions. Another objection regarding desktop video being disinteresting for users comes from perceived video quality and content relevance.
