Age differences in response to high and low-threat driver improvement warning letters

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of the warning level stage of Oregon's Driver Improvement Program is examined. Under this scheme, drivers who are beginning to accumulate violations are sent warning letters to discourage them from becoming high-risk drivers later on. The program serves as a cheaper alternative to other driver control measures such as the driver improvement interview and license suspension. The findings indicate that driver improvement warning letters are effective only in certain cases. They work well when used with drivers aged 35 and over, but not for recipients aged 25 and under.
