Brazil needs ships

Article Abstract:

Shipbuilding programs are on the rise in Brazil, as industry members attempt to revive the glory and strength of shipbuilders and owners. Majority of these programs is spearheaded by Freigedo Rodrigues, the Dept of the Merchant Marine director who has been waging relentless efforts in creating new shipbuilding projects. These programs are primarily aimed at encouraging the Brazilian government to increase the funding allocated for shipbuilding projects.

A description is presented of the economic upturn which has been experienced by a number of shipyards in Scandinavia in 2001. The importance of technical, finance and project management skills in the shipbuilding industry is discussed.

Newbuild experience gives repair yards a boost

Issues are presented concerning the success which has been achieved by the Chinese shipbuilding industry in attracting contracts to build a variety of new ships. The price advantage offered by Chinese yards is discussed.
