Crash data and signal coordination: A one-way pair case study

Article Abstract:

Different aspects of traffic records like traffic volume data, physical conditions, traffic signal operations data and an abnormal crash distribution along a specific road way are illustrated. Review of roadway, crash, and traffic operations data have identified several issues that merit further analysis including: motorist's inability to see traffic signal heads obscured by truck trailers; heavy traffic merges and underutilization of the center lane; and potential signal timing related red light running crashes.

The risks of driving on roadways with 50 miles per hour posted speed limit

Article Abstract:

The study is carried out to identify potential risk factors attributable to the increased crash fatality and injury rates on 50 mph-roads. It is found that higher risks of deaths and serious injuries in crashes on 50 mph-roads are associated with teen driver involvement, low restraint use, alcohol involvement, and roll over crashes as a result of speeding or driving too fast for conditions on gravel surface two-lane roads and suggests measures such as additional training, and increased law enforcement.
