The Fincantieri-Carnival connection highlights the dominance of the Italian shipbuilding Carnival group in the cruise ship business. There is immense potential for cruising to grow in Europe, and P&O-princess, a Carnival group ship, accounted for 80% of Carnival group growth in 2003.

Meeting the challenge of evolving design

The 294 metre cruise ship, the Millennium, has been designed and constructed concurrently by Chantier de l'Atlantique for Celebrity Cruises. It is the first cruise ship to be powered by gas turbine, backed up by steam generated from the turbine's waste heat.
