Feeders--the vital link in the container transport system

Article Abstract:

This report examines the importance of feeder ships in the container transport system, and Hamburg-based ship design and engineering company SchiffkoEs popular CV1100 Plus feeder boxship design. In the last seven years the company has contracted forty-two ships based on this design for German ship owners. A majority of the feeders have been built in the Chinese or Romanian shipyards.

Jack of all trades - two sides of the coin

Article Abstract:

Two different responses to the problem of carrying different cargoes are discussed. Japanese ship owner Hinode Kisen has ordered two multi-purpose heavy-lift cargo vessels capable of carrying a mix of containerized, conventional and roro cargoes. Wallenius-Wilhelmsen has ordered four Mark IV generation deep-sea roro ships able to carry both cars and conventional containers.

LNG carriers go larger

A forecast for the liquefied natural gas shipping industry shows a growing demand that will double in the next 25 years in North America, Europe and Japan. The demand for LNG containers will also increase considerably to meet the LNG demands around the world.
