Paving the way to consolidation

Article Abstract:

The demand for a more extensive range of transportation needs are driving the consolidation trend in the shipping industry. The vehicle/car carrier sector is one segment that appears to be following the consolidation trend. Wilhelmsen and Wallenius Lines will merge at the beginning of Jul 1999, creating a combined entity that will operate over 70 specialized vessels. A growing number of shipowners and operators are seeking new partners in an effort to improve operations, lessen competition and create a more stable industry.
