Parental views of and experience with Michigan's graduated licensing program

This article evaluates the first driving education program that requires parents to certify teens' completion of required supervised driving practice. Topics include parental views, oppositions to new training requirements, and future legal implications.

Persistence of violation and crash behavior over time

Article Abstract:

This article examines the driving records of young Michigan drivers in order to predict future offenses and accidents. Results indicate that ticketed violations and at-fault accidents significantly increase the likelihood of subsequent offenses and accidents, especially in female and more experienced young drivers.

Graduated driver licensing in the United States: evaluation results from the early programs

Article Abstract:

All States have identified crash reductions among teen drivers following Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) implementation. Reduction in population-adjusted risk of fatal crash involvement of 16-year old- drivers was impressive in Florida and Michigan (by 11 percent and 24 percent respectively).
