Pilot ladder injury

Article Abstract:

A barge crew member tried to board a large ship after there was no crew on the large ship to pick up the barge's mooring lines. The crew member suffered a broken heel when the pilot ladder ran out by one meter when he put his weight on the pilot ladder. It is suggested that barge managers provide clear procedur es regarding pilot ladders to their crews.

Proper drills saved lives

Article Abstract:

The rescue of the crew of the cargo ship MSC Napoli in January 2007 off Branscombe beach in Devon, southwest England, is described. The drills conducted to train the crew in crisis management are discussed.
