Japanese CRP pod ferry order

Article Abstract:

The two high-speed ropax ferries build by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) featuring CRP Azipod propulsion, for Osaka-based Shin-Nihonkai Ferries, which is the first application of the innovative contra-rotating pod propulsion solution devised by ABB, is presented. This new 22.4 meters long by 26 meters wide ferries will be able to carry 158 trailers, 66 passengers cars and 820 passengers.

Green star for Carnival Spirit

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the design and construction of the cruise ship Carnival Spirit which has won a 'Green Star' designation for its environmental standards. The ship was built in Finland by Kvaerner Masa-Yards.

Rock and roll - a thing of the past?

A description is presented of the research being carried out in Germany to design a system which reduces cargo and ship losses by reducing roll in heavy seas. The part government funded Roll-S system is discussed.
