Management Needs Streamlining

Article Abstract:

The management function of American business is undergoing value analysis. Management is being examined in terms of its activities and whether they need to be performed. Efforts to streamline and reorganize activities are being made. These efforts are expecially crucial in today's climate of tight money and abundant competition. Chief executive officers (CEOs) have found many weaknesses in corporate management. They include a lack of commitment, a lack of perspective and not enough risk taking. Management strengths include entrepreneurial spirit and organizational skills. Attempts by a variety of companies to streamline management are related.

Meeting Future Electric Power Needs with Natural Gas

Article Abstract:

Up until the 1970s, many utilities preferred gas-fired power generation to meet consumer needs. Gas has been the traditional choice of power source after coal. The attributes of gas have been abundant supply and low first cost. Early in the 1970s, uncertainty was expressed about the future availability of natural gas and its long-term price track. It is contended here that natural gas will be available at competitive prices. Natural gas-fired systems are said to be environmentally beneficial as well.

The future is electric

Article Abstract:

Many new classes of ships dynamically positioned drill-ships, cable and pipe layers, shuttle tankers and many such devices and have benefited from advances in power electronics, electro-magnetics and innovative hydrodynamic and propulsion disigns. The various benefits derieved from electric propulsion are discussed.
