New applications found for old technique

Article Abstract:

Metalock Singapore Ltd. has developed a new method of reconditioning marine engines through the use of electron beam welding (EBW). The inner grooves of worn out marine engine piston crowns are machined and replaced with two mild steel rings. The replacement steel rings are then secured and molded through EBW. Metalock noted that using the EBW technique reduces the costs of refurbishing marine engines and lessens the amount of materials used.
