The design and functionality of podded propulsion systems have been continuously improving, as more and more companies start to tap this lucrative market. Kamewa, for instance, has forged a partnership with motor builder Cegelec for the development of four electrically driven podded propulsion units. Azipod, on the other hand, maintains its edge in the market with a total of 26 units on order.

The design of building a concept ship by the French architect Jean Philippe Zoppini is described, the Iled'AZ was part of an initiative led by France's Alstom shipbuilding and engineering group. The commencement of the project depends on the right economic climate and a brave and inspired ship or hotel owner.
