Post-Panamax surge: hatch covers keep up with ever increasing loads

The growth in the containership orders and sizes of vessels is ever increasing and as the market evolves and ships up to and beyond 10,000 TEU come into service, the hatch cover may come under immense pressure. Dr. Hans Payer, executive board member for Germanischer Lloyd (GL) believes that vessels of this size would develop into the new standard for jumbo container ships.

Focus on bulkers: legislation points the finger at bulk carriers

Article Abstract:

The focus on bulk carriers rather than tankers is highlighted with new regulations of water ingress alarms in cargo holds and forward spaces brought in through the IMO and IACS. Tor Svensen, maritime chief operating officer revealed that, both single and double bulk carriers if maintained properly and meeting the IACS and IMO requirements would definitely have the safety requirements needed.
