Speakers at the 18th Motor Ship Conference held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in Mar. 1996 emphasized the need for shipbuilders to adhere to design principles and standards that will optimize vessel safety and reliability. They called on shipbuilders to make sure that their staff are adequately trained to maintain and operate ships. The advantages of new ship engines were also discussed during the conference.

Simple solutions

The second day of the Motor Ship sponsored conference brought to light several solutions to make seafaring easier. The 19th Marine Propulsion Conference is entitled 'Keeping it Simple for Seamen' and featured discussions on equipment and control systems of vessels. Various companies in the shipbuilding industry attended the conference and most gave contributions on the topic.
