Elation has a variety of safety features that meet international standards. These include 12 lifeboats which each accommodate 150 people; six tender/life boats which have a capacity of 80 persons when used as tenders but accommodate 145 people in life-saving situations; and two semi-rigid, high-speed rescue boats which each carry six people. There are also 36, inflatable life rafts which each carry 25 people and 36 spare rafts which each carry 25 people. Other safety features include sophisticated fire detection systems.

Tunnel vision

Article Abstract:

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' (RCCL) requirement that its new cruise ships be capable of holding their position without the use of anchors resulted in the use of resiliently mounted tunnel thrusters. The thrusters, supplied by Brunvoll A/S, answered the dynamic positioning need of RCCL's Millenium Class series line while overcoming the problem of vibration and noise that comes with the use of such equipment. Noise reduction on the thrusters were measured at the range of 11-15 dB(A).
