The global chemistry industry

Article Abstract:

Forecasts for the chemical industry reveal that moderate growth will take place at the end of the century, particularly due to increased demand in Asia and decreasing cost capacity additions that are bound to decrease prices. Ethylene, which is considered to be a vital petrochemical building block, is expected to increase its global demand, gaining an average annual rate of about 5% beginning in 1998 until the year 2000. The petrochemical industry in Europe is experiencing low margins and is in a tough competition with the growing industry in Asia.
