Wartsila power for Sto-Ro freighters

Article Abstract:

The Polish shipbuilder Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa placed orders with Wartsila Corporation for four new 12,800 tdw multi-purpose Sto-Ro cargo vessels, which were contracted by the Dutch owner Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor BV, which will enter Transfennica services that operates Ro-Ro services between Finalnd and Estonia, Sweden, Germany, Belgium and the United Kingdom. The main engines, Lips controllable-pitch propellers, Lips Efficiency Rudders and Wartsila 8L20 diesel generating sets that will be supplied by Wartsila are designed for high power and fuel economy.

Re-engining the Banasa stage two

Article Abstract:

The second phase of re-engining of the car and passenger ferry Banasa is discussed. In the second phase the existing engines will be removed and four new eight cylinder MAN B&W L27/38 engines will be installed to give a service speed of about 18 knots.

Active cargo physically affects the cargo-hold coating and directly influences the corrosion reaction on the underlying steel. The causes of coating failure and the types of coating failure produced by an active cargo are discussed.
