A new beginning

Article Abstract:

The UK government has allocated a grant of up to 10 million pounds sterling to the newly formed English Tourism Council (ETC), which is expected to take over many of the role previously performed by the English Tourist Board (ETB). The aim of the ETC will be to guide tourism into the new century, developing partnerships with industry, raising standards and using the advice to experts to form cohesive marketing strategies. The ETC is seeking to reverse the decline in domestic tourism, which fell in value from 11.7 billion pound sterling in 1997 to 10.9 billion pounds sterling in 1998.
