Barcelona: the Olympic city

Article Abstract:

The Olympic Games will further Barcelona's ambition to be a major European cultural centre. Road building has predominated in a programme of infrastructure investment which has stimulated Catalonian urban regeneration. More than 90% of investment has been on non-sporting facilities. Strategic location of the Olympic village has enabled the reintegration of city and coast. New sporting facilities have been developed without funding through taxation. Barcelona will continue to promote itself as a conference and short-break centre after the Olympics.
