Bath water

Article Abstract:

There are numerous UK organisations involved in water treatment for swimming pools, and new ideas are always being conceived. There is no legislation in the UK relating to the quality of swimming pool water, but legal action could be brought if there were negligence. Swimming pool operators need to dilute the water in the ratio of 30 litres per bather daily to ensure that the quality of the water is high. Good circulation hydraulics and filtration are also important. The higher the number of bathers the greater the need for a better quality disinfectant.

Water tight?

Article Abstract:

The Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group has been lobbying the government for regulations on pool water management. The group released the 'Pool Water Guide' in March 1995, which includes advice on bathing load, dilution, circulation, turnover, and disinfection. There are currently no regulations covering pool management and water quality in the UK, although other European countries do have them.

Filter right: keep your water crystal clear with this introduction to water treatment

Article Abstract:

Hydraulics, filtration and chemical treatments are key elements in successfully treating pool water. Non domestic pools require medium-rate sand filters based on a pool turnover rate of between half an hour to four hours. Backwashing would be required at least once a week and should be vigorous enough to fluidise the sand bed.
