Cassidy's closes its doors

Article Abstract:

Cassidy's Ltd of Brossard, Quebec, has closed shop after 199 years in the foodservice equipment and supply business. The 450-employee firm, which was founded in 1801, is under the court-ordered control of interim receiver PricewaterhouseCoopers Inc. Cassidy's bankruptcy took the industry by surprise because it appeared to be financially healthy and was planning to celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2001. The company's troubles began to surface after its entire directorial board resigned in mid-Dec 1999.

Vegas, baby!

Article Abstract:

Charles Khabouth, Canada's most successful nightclub owner, heard Cirque du Soleil was planning to open clubs inspired by its performances and so he grabbed the opportunity. He was able to get a $US12 million deal which had him looking for locations around the globe, and Las Vegas was the first spot where they would open and operate. The Beatles Revolution Lounge opened on January 18, 2007 in Las Vegas' Mirage Hotel, which is located on the same property where Cirque's Beatles-inspired LOVE show is. .

A new national joint-marketing group Pork Marketing Canada (PMC) has been formed, to aid the pork industry which is facing several issues. PMC aims to promote pork consumption among Canadians, working with packers, retailers, processors and the foodservice sectors. PMC's formation and first tasks are discussed.
