Article Abstract:

Many members of the UK leisure industry are highly optimistic about growth, and actively planning investment, according to an industry survey by Ernst and Young. Almost all of the 225 survey respondents are investing, or planning investment, in the UK, and more than 60% are planning investment in Western Europe. Total investment plans amount to 3 billion pounds sterling. The main European countries of interest are Germany and France. Respondents believe Germany offers opportunities in the fitness and visitor attraction sectors, and plans for France centre on hotel and restaurant development.

Article Abstract:

The partnership between St Albans council and its leisure contractor St Albans Leisure, part of Relaxion Group, has now been operating successfully for four years. It is a prime example of how links between the public and private sectors can bring benefits for both sides. Indeed, some of the key elements of the deal have now been reflected in the new PFI proposals from the department of the environment for changes to the rules controlling local authorities' capital controls.
