Italian trade offers fresh Thai options

Article Abstract:

Thailand looks set to continue as a favourite holiday destination for Italian tourists despite a 10% drop in figures for 1996. This is seen as being in line with a general trend in all European markets. The country is keen to develop tourist opportunities beyond its popular beaches, and Italian tour operators have begun to diversify their product. Malan Viaggi now offers tours combined with other countries and adventure packages including rice barge cruises whilst I Viaggi del Mappamondo has launched all-inclusive packages.

Newer beach destinations are pulling in more tourists

Article Abstract:

The Ranong province in south-west Thailand is one of several new tourist areas in the country. Others include Krabi and Phi Phi. Phuket and Ko Samui continue to lead in the beach holiday popularity stakes, followed by Pattaya in third place. The Indochina region is currently growing in popularity due to its easy access to Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos. In 1995, Thailand was Kuoni's top selling long-haul destination.
