New destinations take bite into NY business

Article Abstract:

New tourist destinations in the US are beginning to present a threat to New York, although international arrivals to this city are still rising. The Pow Wow trade marketplace event held in 1995 served to revive interest in the city, and is predicted to produce more than $300 million in new international visitor spending over the next three years. However, the city's share of the overall US travel tourism market fell to 2% in 1995, from 2.1% in 1993.
