Nick Irens

Nick Irens became chief executive of new leisure company Vardon PLC in 1992. His previous appointment as finance director of First leisure established his reputation in the leisure industry. Irens intends to continue the conservative strategy developed at First Leisure. He aims to develop a wide leisure base for the company by buying and restyling existing facilities. The company acquired London and York dungeons and Sea Life Centres in 1992. Further marine and freshwater centres are planned. Future business may encompass ten pin bowling, bingo and arcades.

John Sanderson, Managing Director of Tomorrow's Leisure PLC, is responsible for converting the Merseyside garden festival site into multi-facility leisure complex Pleasure Island. The development offers family entertainment to a possible catchment of 12 million people. It is one of several mulit-leisure enterprises directed at the mass market. The company has no interest in taking over existing enterprises and location, site and population are of prime importance in the acquisition of undeveloped sites.

John Williams is Managing Director of Granada Theme Parks and Hotels. The new division combines administration of Studios Tour, American Adventure and Camelot theme parks with the new Victoria and Albert Hotel, Park Hall conference centre and hotels in Stoke, Sheffield and Alfreton, England. Immediate plans are to develop existing interests. New ideas have been developed for Camelot and American Adventure. Studios Tours' successful marketing strategies will also be applied.
