Article Abstract:

Plymouth and Dover, England have established major leisure attractions to attract tourists and investment for economic development. Plymouth Dome offers maritime history in the central tourist area of Plymouth Hoe. The White Cliffs Experience is sited in Dover's town centre to maximise secondary spending. Plymouth Dome offers multi-media shows and costumed historical displays from Francis Drake to World War, 1939-1945. The White Cliffs Experience provdes cinema and restaurant and historical displays in the Historium. Both councils consider the ventures successful.

National Fishing Heritage Centre

Article Abstract:

The National Fishing Heritage Centre, Grimsby, England has won the English Tourist Board Tourism Attraction of the Year award. It is the ninth award since opening in May, 1991. The centre explores the maritime history of Grimsby and was developed from a former dockland site. Themes include wartime fishing and trawling in the Arctic in the 1950s. Special effects add realism to the experience. Interactive exhibits supplement the displays. A projected local history museum will enhance the attraction.

Spitting Image Rubberworks

Article Abstract:

Leisure attraction, Spitting Image Rubberworks opened in London, England in 1990. Main features include a 12 minute animatronics show and workshop. Demonstrations on the manufacture and operation of the puppets are the highlight of the visit. However, poor location and cost-cutting limit the quality of the attraction and may prove disappointing to fans of the original television programme.
