Spring into action

Article Abstract:

Springboard UK was launched in Aug 1997. It is supported by many of the major UK hospitality companies. The main aim of the organization is to promote the leisure and hospitality industries to prospective employees. The organisation has arranged several visits to schools and careers conventions, since its launch. Springboard's primary objectives are to demonstrate the various career openings in the industry, to increase the number of new recruits and improve the quality of employees. Springboard is using the Internet, videos and interactive software to appeal to young people.

Article Abstract:

The Welfare to Work scheme has been in operation for one year and the Department for Education and Employment claims that 100,000 unemployed people have started work, training or voluntary work through the scheme, while 40,000 employers have participated. The hospitality industry expects 750 jobs to be created because Whitbread, Stakis, Thistle, Bass and Forte have agreed to work with the Employment Service on New Deal. The companies hope that they will manage to attract more motivated staff.

FA pledges tough action on Euro 96 ticket fraud

Article Abstract:

The UK's Football Association is taking tough action against the sale of tickets for the Euro 96 football championship through illegal channels. It has threatened to withdraw tickets if necessary, and has emphasised that only Keith Prowse and Sportsworld are authorised to sell tickets as part of hospitality packages. Various measures are being taken to ensure that illegal ticket sales are kept to a minimum.
