Sweden

Article Abstract:

Sweden's tourist industry has gone through a recessionary period, driven downwards by economic pressures and the introduction of a 25% value added tax on tourism-related services. The tourism market is dominated by visitors from home, with an 80% share of commercial bednights. The general trend towards activity-based holidays and away from the beach should greatly benefit Sweden with its natural beauty and unspoiled attractions. Tourism is Sweden's third largest export earner.

Venezuela

Article Abstract:

Venezuela is better known as a destination for international business travellers rather than tourists and just 25% of the 400,000 international arrivals in 1993 were on holiday. Venezuela is a country of contrasts, with a coastline extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Sea and has many attractions for visitors. The government is planning to develop the tourist industry, although the country will not become a major tourist destination in the short-term.

Greece

Article Abstract:

Greece is not as popular a tourist destination as Spain, Italy or France, despite its long Mediterranean coastline. The main problems are its undeveloped infrastructure, poor government support for the tourist industry and lack of city-break facilities. Greece has around 11 million vistors a year, although its market is very seasonal. The government has begun a programme of investing in the tourism industry and the target is to attract 20 million visitors by 2000.
