Tourism satellite accounts: A critical assessment

Article Abstract:

The scope by which the tourism industry's contribution to the national and regional GDP is underestimated is demonstrated by using the case of Austria and two of its states. It shows that the results in measuring the tourism satellite accounts-based contribution made by the tourism industry to national or regional GDP must be adjusted for indirect effects and intermediate consumption such as business trips of residents.

An assessment of visitor expenditure methods and models

Article Abstract:

The estimated visitor expenditures in countries, regions, cities and other areas are assessed using 11 methods and models, essential for producing comprehensive estimates of tourism's economic benefits in an area. The methods used to estimate visitor expenditures apply definitions of relevant concepts developed by the World Tourism Organization are reviewed to promote standardization and quality in tourism statistics.

Collecting and using visitor spending data

Article Abstract:

Traveler spending in Montana is showed by using Montana's natural resources as the benchmark, where spending by visitors is accounted to 76 percent. It is suggested that conservation of Montana's natural resources is paramount to a thriving tourism industry, which is an important economic contribution to the state.
