Travel as theater: a new challenge to the credibility of tourism

Article Abstract:

International and domestic tourism is increasingly being affected by the popularity of theme parks. The seeming perfection of theme parks has resulted in the surge of visitors who can experience the attractions of a region without leaving the relative safety of a park. State advertising budgets for promoting tourism have also been cut. However, these staged or choreographed venues will hopefully not replace the experience and adventure offered by real travel.
