Article Abstract:

A study on the accessibility challenges existed at the majority of Ontario foodservice establishments suggests that disabled persons are willing to increase their spending on hospitality industry provided the industry offers user-friendly services like automatic door openers, Braille menus accessible washrooms and counters. The new ventures underway by the leading restaurant chains like McDonald's, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, Subway, Country Style Donuts, Swiss Chalet and Tim Hortons for providing disabled-friendly upgrades in their respective restaurant chains are analyzed.

In this context it is imperative that the companies in the industry keep a watch on each and every movement of their competitors and take advantage of the opportunities in the growing market.

It is reported by the Heart and Stroke foundation that 47% of Canadians are overweight and obese and are at risk of diseases such as heart attacks, stroke, diabetes and cancer. The outpouring of diets such as Atkins and South Beach have changed the face of food service industry with a variety of low-carb foods on their menus for the consumers.
