A mother's instinct

Homesteaders are loathe to harm, much less kill, brown bears that stray into their yards and gardens. However, the maternal instinct to protect one's youngsters from these animals prevails in situations where the bear may attack and leaves one with no choice but to shoot the animal.

The wild cattle of Chirikof Island

Article Abstract:

Some 800 wild cattle are to be moved from Chirikof island by federal wildlife managers so that the island can become a bird colony. The cattle are thought to be of Siberian origin, but they are damaging the sand dunes.
