ALL THE PRETTY HORSES

Article Abstract:

Connecticut and Rhode Island offer an unusual opportunity to explore the craft of wooden carousels. From 1880 to the 1930s, there were almost 4,500 Victorian-inspired wooden merry go rounds in the US. Today there are less than 200. Five antique carousels are located in Connecticut and Rhode Island within easy driving distance. Visitor information for Connecticut is provided.
