Hunting Oomingmak

Article Abstract:

Alaska's musk oxen offer hunters the challenge of big game animals within a snowy wilderness landscape. Traveling by snowmobiles, a ten-day hunt began for one hunter and his experienced guide. They followed a herd until it scattered, and one ox was shot.

Summer's pioneer: marking time with fireweed

Article Abstract:

Fireweed and river beauty are two plants which bloom all over Alaska, northern Canada, Siberia and China every summer. The plants change color as the summertime passes. Their natural beauty and relationship to the environment are discussed.
