Lawyers contend that counterfeiting US goods need not automatically be considered illegal. Pirate production of US goods are acceptable if such trademarks are registered in another country. US manufacturers should develop a plan that shall register their respective products among countries where they expect their goods to be distributed. Producers can also avail of legal protection from international laws such as the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the Madrid Protocol.
