Caribbean compromise: nature must make itself useful in Sian Ka'an

Amigos de Sian Ka'an won the 'Conde Nast Traveler's second annual Ecotourism Award. The group implemented sustainable land management, making commercial tourism viable without adversely affecting the environment of Sian Ka'an. However, most of the island's waterfront is privately owned by Mexicans.

Antarctica's popularity problem

The Antarctic is being overwhelmed by too many cruise hips, airplanes and tourists. Many believe that the ever-expanding levels of tourism will cause environmental damage in the area. No international regulations exist on the types of ships visiting Antarctica.
