NSSM 200 and the world population explosion

Article Abstract:

US Pres. Richard Nixon's belief that overpopulation would undermine global peace and stability led Congress to form a special commission. Although the commission's recommendations to curb population growth were not implemented due to strong Catholic opposition, Nixon initiated the National Security Study Memorandum 2000 which looked at the effects of overpopulation on US security. Unfortunately, its recommendations, although already approved by Pres. Ford, were also blocked by the Vatican because of the threat to papal authority over 'matters of faith and morals.'
