The Persistence of polygamy: in return for statehood, Utah outlawed polygamy more than 100 years ago; but it never went away, and two trials about to begin may reveal that taking more than one wife can involve other kinds of sexual crimes as well

Article Abstract:

One Mormon polygamist, David O. Kingston, and his brother John face criminal charges for child abuse, incest and polygamy in Salt Lake City, UT. John's teenage daughter filed the charges and created a high-profile case against one of the biggest clans in Utah. Although polygamy is unlawful, religious tradition has sustained the practice and forced divisiveness among Mormon women who disagree over its alleged benefits.
