North Carolina holds breath over hog waste threat

Article Abstract:

Fall 1999 hurricanes flooded North Carolina wastewater treatment plants and hog-waste lagoons and deposited pollutants in Pamlico Sound. The problem has focused attention on the environmental dangers of hog-waste disposal.

Red drum: In the black? Stocks of red drum are improving, but North Carolina anglers are paying the price

Article Abstract:

Severe restrictions in North Carolina are keeping anglers away from fishing for big drum. It is stated that a decline in short-term landings is not something for anglers to worry about when it is largely the result of harvest restrictions mandated by fishery management plans.

The finer points of pursuing king mackerel is learnt through an expert, Captain Stanman, a long-time amateur angler. Live bait plays an important role in Stanman's strategy; therefore he keeps his castnetted menhaden in a special holding pen rather than dumping them on deck.
