Machu Picchu for the masses? A development debate intrudes on the Incan sanctuary

Article Abstract:

The Peruvian government's policy of attracting more visitors to Machu Picchu, the 15th century Incan citadel located between the Amazon jungle and the Andes, has attracted some opposition. There is particular concern about plans for an aerial tram from the valley floor to the hilltop sanctuary.
