Magnolia Homes: a source of pride

Article Abstract:

The Magnolia Homes development in Galveston, TX, has been miraculously rejuvenated through a modernization program completed in 1995. Before the restoration, the 44-year-old community was considered as an eyesore by the people who live in the neighborhood which is mostly composed of elegant Victorian homes. In fact, the housing was so ugly and rundown that not a few proposed the demolition of the property through the years. Thankfully, the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development decided that the housing can still be renovated and therefore should not be demolished. A $2.85 million modernization program was thus initiated. The Galveston Housing Authority hired the architect Art Schuldt of Schuldt, Goza and Babinaux to make a design for the houses that complimented the historical neighborhood. The result is a transformed Magnolia Homes that is a source of pride to its residents, neighbors and the whole community.
