Nome is one of Alaska's gold mining centers where rich deposits of gold are found. Every summer, gold miners such as Andy and Robert Hehnlin work on the beaches of Nome in search of gold. Beach gold mining began in Nome in 1898 after three men, called Lucky Swedes, found gold in Anvil Creek, Nome.

Pedaling Nome
Article Abstract:
A visit to Nome, Alaska would be more appreciated if done through bicycle camping or touring. Nome can be considered as one of the best biking areas in Alaska. On a bicycle, one can see and experience the many facets offered by Nome such as the seacoast villages and the abundant wildlife.

Wonderful winter in the whites
Article Abstract:
A personal narrative of a visit to the White Mountains National Recreation Area, north of Fairbanks, Alaska is presented. The area has two hundred miles of winter trails open to skiers dog mushers and snowmobiles.
