Payment protection insurance products are designed to offer borrowers protection against loss of income for a limited period. Many of them pay out agreed sums for up to one year. Would-be purchasers of payment protection insurance are advised to consider all exclusion clauses. Insurers may refuse to pay out if the insured has sought medical treatment prior to signing their insurance policy.

Critics of the National Rifle Assn. (NRA) have tried to link the association to the bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City, OK. One attempt alleged that the NRA received a secret report about the bombing while another alleged that an explosives tagging bill opposed by the NRA could have prevented the attack.
