Late Gen. Joe Foss, an American legend established the Joe Foss Institute to preserve freedom by reminding future generations about their historic struggle to freedom and the cost of its maintenance. Various presentations are arranged by the institute to convey the meaning and importance of patriotism to young people.

Richard McCann, who grew up in Silver Spring in the 1950's and 60's, has come with a new book Mother of Sorrows, a collection of alluring stories narrated by a man who also grew up in Silver Spring. He turns family stories into fiction and is working on essays about his liver transplant.
